New Blog Post to Social Media Drafts

Create review-only social post drafts every time you publish an article, with duplicate protection, structured AI output and a four-platform build guide.

Free 3 views 0 copies

This workflow creates draft social posts for review every time you publish a new article. It watches your site for new posts, asks an AI model for channel-specific drafts based only on the article, and saves them in a sheet with the status “Needs review”. Nothing is ever posted automatically.

At a glance

Trigger A new published post on your WordPress site (via the feed or the WordPress trigger)
Result A LinkedIn draft, an X thread, a newsletter blurb and quote lines in a review sheet, plus a notification
Platforms Make, Zapier, n8n, Power Automate
Difficulty Intermediate
Setup time 1 to 2 hours
Human approval Required. A person edits and schedules every post.

What it does and does not do

Keep drafts in one review sheet Add facts that are not in the article
Avoid processing the same post twice Choose images

Before you start

  • A WordPress site with a working feed, or a WordPress connection in your platform.
  • A Google Sheet (or Excel table) to store drafts.
  • An AI account with a spending limit.
  • The Content Repurposing skill, which supplies the instructions.

Prepare the review sheet

The AI instruction (copy and paste)

You repurpose articles into social media drafts. Use ONLY facts from the article below. Do not add statistics, quotes or claims.

Article title: {{Title}}
Article URL: {{URL}}
Article text: {{Content as plain text}}
Voice: [for example practical, warm, plain-spoken]

Return ONLY valid JSON with these keys:
{"linkedin": "", "x_thread": ["", "", "", "", ""], "newsletter": "", "quotes": ["", "", ""]}
Rules:
- linkedin: 120 to 180 words, strong first line without clickbait, one takeaway, a question at the end, and the URL on its own line.
- x_thread: 5 posts, each under 280 characters, the last containing the URL.
- newsletter: 60 to 80 words with a short headline.
- quotes: three lines under 15 words each, in your own words.
- No emoji and no more than two hashtags per post.

Build steps

  1. Trigger on a new post in your feed or WordPress.
  2. Check for duplicates. Search the sheet for the post URL. If found, stop.
  3. Prepare the text. Convert the post HTML to plain text and limit it to a safe length for your AI model.
  4. Call the AI model with the instruction above.
  5. Read the JSON into separate fields.
  6. Add a row to the review sheet with the status “Needs review”.
  7. Notify the content owner with a link to the sheet row.

Platform guide

Step Make Zapier n8n Power Automate
Trigger WordPress or RSS: watch for new items WordPress: new post, or RSS by Zapier: new item in feed RSS Feed Trigger or WordPress node on a schedule RSS: “When a feed item is published”
Duplicate check Google Sheets: search rows, then a filter Google Sheets: find row, then a Filter or Path Google Sheets node, then IF node Excel: list rows with a filter, then a Condition
HTML to text Text parser: HTML to text Formatter: convert Markdown or HTML to text HTML node or Code node “Html to text” action
AI step An AI app module, then Parse JSON AI by Zapier or an AI app action AI node, then Code or Set node AI Builder (if licensed) or HTTP, then Parse JSON
Save and notify Sheets: add a row, then Slack or email Sheets: create row, then Slack or email Sheets: append, then Slack or email node Excel: add a row, then Teams or Outlook

Names and plan requirements change. Check your platform’s current options.

Test plan

Test Expected result
Publish a new post One row with four kinds of draft and status Needs review
Trigger the same post again No second row
A very short post Drafts still make sense and no invented details appear
AI returns invalid JSON No row created, error alert sent

Cost and limits

  • One AI call and a handful of steps per post, so costs stay low for typical publishing volumes.
  • Very long articles may need trimming to fit the model’s input limit.
  • Polling feeds often uses more platform usage. Check every 15 to 60 minutes.

Security and privacy

  • Do not feed unpublished or confidential drafts into this workflow.
  • Do not auto-post. Review each draft for accuracy and tone.
  • Check each channel’s rules, including advertising and disclosure rules.

Variations

  • Approval routing: email the drafts to an approver and move the row to Approved only after a reply.
  • Calendar scheduling: add a suggested posting date based on a weekly pattern.
  • Visuals: create a graphic after approval, for example in Canva (see the Canva MCP server).

Troubleshooting

Problem Fix
Old posts trigger the workflow Start it with a date filter so only posts after setup are processed.
Drafts include invented facts Strengthen the “only facts from the article” rule and keep the review step.
Posts are too long Add stricter word and character limits to the instruction.
