HubSpot offers two official MCP servers, and it matters which one you use. The remote HubSpot MCP server connects an AI assistant to your CRM data (contacts, companies, deals and more). The Developer MCP server runs locally and helps developers build HubSpot apps and CMS content in their editor. Most people reading this page want the remote CRM server.
Quick facts
- Provider: HubSpot (official)
- Remote CRM server address:
https://mcp.hubspot.com. One published guide also lists a Claude-specific path,https://mcp.hubspot.com/anthropic, so check HubSpot’s documentation for the address that matches your client. - Remote server sign-in: OAuth with PKCE and an approval of the data scopes you choose
- Developer MCP server: Runs locally, set up with the HubSpot CLI command
hs mcp setup - Works with: Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients (Developer server clients include Claude Code, Cursor, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI and Windsurf)
Which server should I use?
| You want to | Use |
|---|---|
| Ask questions about contacts, companies and deals, or update CRM records | The remote HubSpot MCP server, or the HubSpot connector for Claude if it is available to you. |
| Build a HubSpot app, a UI extension or CMS content in your editor | The Developer MCP server. |
What you can do with the remote CRM server
| Capability | What it means |
|---|---|
| Look up records | Find contacts, companies, deals and related activity that you have permission to see. |
| Summarise accounts | Create short briefings before a call from the data in the CRM. |
| Analyse and report | Ask questions such as which deals are stalled or which leads need follow-up. |
| Update data | Create or update supported records, depending on the scopes you approve. |
The set of supported objects and tools changes, so check HubSpot’s MCP documentation for the current list.
Before you start
- A HubSpot account with permission to view the data you want the assistant to use. The assistant can only access what your account and the approved scopes allow.
- An MCP client that supports remote servers with OAuth, such as Claude.
- For some clients, you may need to create an MCP auth app in HubSpot and note the client ID, client secret and redirect URL. This may require a HubSpot admin or developer permission.
- For the Developer server, the HubSpot CLI (version 8.2.0 or higher for the latest supported clients) and, for VS Code, the
codecommand available in your PATH.
How to connect the remote CRM server
- In your AI app, open connectors or integrations. In Claude this is in Settings, and the exact location differs between web and mobile.
- If a HubSpot connector is listed, choose Connect. Otherwise add a custom connector with the HubSpot server address from HubSpot’s documentation.
- Sign in to HubSpot and review the data scopes before approving. Approve only the objects you need.
- Switch the connector on for your conversation.
- Test with a read-only request such as “List my five most recently created deals.”
How to set up the Developer MCP server
- Install or update the HubSpot CLI and sign in to it.
- Run the setup command in your terminal:
hs mcp setup - Select the clients you want to add it to, and choose whether to use standalone mode, which uses
npx @hubspot/cliinstead of a globally installedhscommand. - Check your client’s MCP settings for a server called HubSpotDev. In Claude Code you can run
/mcpto see it.

Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| Cannot connect to the CRM server | Check the server address in HubSpot’s documentation, and that your client supports remote OAuth connections. |
| Missing records or permission errors | Your HubSpot user or the approved scopes may not allow access to that object. |
| Need client ID and secret | Create an MCP auth app in HubSpot and use its client ID, client secret and redirect URL. |
| HubSpotDev server not showing | Re-run hs mcp setup, restart your client and check your CLI version. |
| Sign-in expired | Reconnect and approve again. |
Safety and privacy
- CRM data is personal data. Follow your privacy policy and applicable data laws before sending it to an AI tool.
- Start read-only. Approve write scopes only when you need them, and ask for a draft before any record is changed.
- Check before bulk changes. Back up or export data first, and test on a few records.
- Do not paste credentials. Client secrets and tokens should never go into chat.
- You can revoke access from your AI app and from your HubSpot connected apps settings.
