Grammarly

AI writing assistant for grammar, tone and rewrites

Freemium

What is Grammarly?

Grammarly is an AI writing assistant that checks grammar, spelling, clarity and tone as you write, and can rewrite or generate text on request. It works in browsers, in many apps and as a desktop and mobile keyboard. Its parent company renamed itself Superhuman in late 2025 after acquiring the Superhuman email app and Coda, but the Grammarly product and its plans kept their names.

Quick facts

  • Made by: Grammarly, whose parent company is now called Superhuman
  • Free plan: Yes, with grammar, spelling and tone checks and about 100 AI prompts a month
  • Paid plans: Pro for individuals and teams, plus custom Enterprise. A separate Superhuman suite Business tier bundles email and docs.
  • Works on: Browser extension, web, Windows, macOS, iOS and Android, and inside many apps
  • Pricing last checked: October 2026, using several recent published sources. Plans were consolidated in 2025 and 2026, so older pages list tiers that no longer exist. Confirm on Grammarly’s official pricing page.

What Grammarly is best at

  • Real-time editing: grammar, spelling, punctuation and clarity suggestions while you type.
  • Tone and rewriting: adjust how a message sounds, shorten it or rephrase a sentence.
  • Working everywhere: email, documents, social posts and web forms through the extension and apps.
  • Team consistency: style guides, brand tones and analytics on paid plans.
  • Checks and AI agents: plagiarism detection, AI-text detection and a growing set of AI agents.

Plans and pricing

Plan Price What it includes
Free $0 Basic grammar, spelling and tone checks, plus about 100 AI prompts a month.
Pro $12 per member per month billed annually ($144 a year), or $30 billed monthly Full-sentence rewrites, about 2,000 AI prompts a month, plagiarism and AI detection and style tools. It supports up to about 149 seats and replaced the old Premium and Business plans.
Superhuman suite: Business About $33 per member per month billed annually, or about $40 monthly Pro features plus Superhuman Mail and Docs, as a different bundle from Grammarly alone.
Enterprise Custom quote For large organisations, now delivered through Superhuman Go, with no published price.

Pro is billed per seat, so a five-person team on the annual plan pays about $720 a year, not $144. A quarterly Pro option of about $60 per quarter and a short free trial were also reported. Confirm all figures on Grammarly’s official page.

Best for

  • Anyone who writes emails, documents or posts every day and wants fewer mistakes.
  • Non-native English writers who want help with phrasing and tone.
  • Teams that need a consistent voice across customer-facing writing.

Less suited to

  • People who want a full AI writer for long, original drafts, where a general assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude may suit better.
  • Highly confidential writing, unless your organisation has approved Grammarly.
  • Anyone confused by the Superhuman branding, since the suite and Grammarly are sold differently.

How to get started

  1. Install the free browser extension and write a few real emails or documents with it on.
  2. Try a tone change and a rewrite to see whether the suggestions sound like you.
  3. Check how quickly you use the free AI prompts before deciding to upgrade.
  4. If you upgrade, compare the annual and monthly prices, since monthly costs much more.
  5. Review privacy settings if you write about sensitive topics.

Prompt ideas to copy

Rewrite this email so it sounds friendly but professional, keeps every fact and is under 120 words.
Make this paragraph clearer and more concise without changing the meaning. Show me what you changed.
Change the tone of this message from blunt to diplomatic, and keep the request clear.
Proofread this document for grammar, spelling and consistency, and list any phrases that read awkwardly.

Limitations and things to watch

  • Suggestions can change your meaning or flatten your voice, so review them.
  • Free AI prompts are limited, and Pro has a cap too.
  • Plans, names and bundles have changed several times, and older guides are out of date.
  • Be careful about sharing confidential text with any online writing tool.
